Royal Opera House BP Big Screens
Summer 2019 saw Links Broadcast in our regular position at Trafalgar Square for the Royal Opera House BP Big Screens series.
Large audiences at Trafalgar Square and around the UK were able to enjoy a performance of ballet Romeo & Juliet, plus operas Carmen & The Marriage of Figaro across three separate nights. These free events are the highlight of the al-fresco cultural season, and Links Broadcast is proud to have been technology partner to ROH for the production, satellite distribution and remote screen delivery since 2015.
Our production truck, S100, provides the hub for the live presentation from Trafalgar Square, which is weaved together with live presentation at the Opera House to provide an informative and entertaining show to accompany the live performance. The production at Trafalgar Square consists of two cameras, mixed and delivered via satellite to the Opera House, plus a separate vision mix for the local screen and a downlink of the main feed from the Opera House. The full mixed program is produced at the Opera House and delivered to another Links Broadcast uplink truck on site in Covent Garden, from where it is uplinked to screens and cinemas around the UK.
Links Broadcast provide all of the satellite capacity for the distribution of the show and also manage the downlink sites, providing SNG trucks or receivers, antennas and engineers at the majority of receive sites. In 2019 the performances were distributed to 23 different locations around the UK with venues as far apart as Duthie Park in Aberdeen to Whitecliff Bay on the Isle of Wight.
